A clockmaker, Robert-Houdin was also the inventor of automatons and he revolutionized magic when he founded the “Théâtre des soirées fantastiques” (Theater of fantastic evenings) in Paris. The “Théâtre des soirées fantastiques” was the most famous illusionist show of its time and the most imitated of the century. Robert-Houdin was also a pioneer of electricity and l´ophthalmology!
